City Council Meeting Recap: August 17, 2026

  • Housing Authority Board Appointment – The Chairperson of the Forsyth Housing Authority, Linda Hampton, came before Council to request a new member be appointed to fill the position of James Beavers, who’s term ended in May. She stated that the Authority would like Council to consider appointing Reverend Carol Cook, who meets all the requirements of the newly adopted bylaws of the Housing Authority. No other nominees were provided. 

    Councilman Goodson offered a motion to appoint Reverend Cook, and Councilman Wilder provided a second. The motion passed unanimously, 6-0. 

 

  • Dean Darden – Dean Darden, President of the Forsyth Golf Club, came before Council to request the City’s assistance obtaining and installing telephone poles to erect netting at hole one of the course, and to possibly place some poles across the creek at hole twelve. The Golf Club previously purchased four telephone poles, and City Manager Craig Mims and Council agreed that the City can supply any additional poles and install them. Although the City will be installing the poles, the Golf Club will be responsible for acquiring the netting and procuring a service to install the netting. 

    A meeting will also be scheduled between Mr. Darden, Chief Bunn, and Utilities Director Mike Batchelor to discuss the creek crossing for hole twelve. 

    No motion or vote was necessary. 

     

  • Approval of upfitting of two fire vehicles – Chief Bunn requested Council approve the purchase of striping for two fire vehicles for a cost of $7,000 with contingency included. 

    Councilman Wilder offered a motion to approve the request, and Councilman Dodd provided a second. The motion was approved unanimously, 6-0.

 

  • Approval of Requisitions Greater than $10,000
    • Industrial Chemicals - $18,634.50 requisition of chemicals for the City’s water treatment system. 
    • Head Heating and Air - $7,450 requisition for a new HVAC unit at Kynette Park. 

      Councilman Goodson made a motion to approve, and Councilwoman Allen provided a second. The motion was approved unanimously, 6-0.
